Panasonic Lumix GH7 5.7K Apple ProRes RAW Mirrorless Camera

I have filmed about 10 weddings with this camera and have taken photos at about 3. It is an incredibly valuable hybrid tool. Some have mentioned the autofocus can be not great, and I agree and that is my biggest complaint. However, I have noticed this problem more in video mode versus in photo mode. Using my trusty Panasonic Leica 25-50mm f/1.7 on this camera, it feels like the two were made for each other, truly. As a video guy who is expanding his business into photo, the lens and camera combination just make sense. The only other drawback for me besides the occasional autofocus issues is the fact that you can't record an efficient raw codec internally, like Blackmagic's .braw. I use the Blackmagic Video Assist when recording video, which is fantastic but it adds a decent amount of weight and awkwardness. Panasonic please make a deal with Blackmagic so we can finally have a camera that records Blackmagic raw and also takes decent photos with a mechanical shutter and EVF!!! If you did this, you would essentially have the micro 4/3 equivalent of a Canon R5C but for significantly less money and with killer IBIS. I often use my Nikon ZR for gimbal video and switch to the GH7 for handheld cinema-like shots. The reason I don't just use the ZR for everything is that I have a lot of micro 4/3 lenses already, plus the f/1.7 across the portrait range is just an incredibly useful thing for wedding videos, and photos. The open gate 6k at 24 or 30 is a really interesting look. Anyway, yes this camera has limitations but all cameras do. I believe this camera is still a terrific value.

A GH6 …. Only better 😂. Love the GH7. I first got my GH6 and loved it. Now that I got my GH7 I honestly think it’s the perfect camera for me. Unlimited recording. No overheating. Up to 5.7K. Improved autofocus. Perfect.

I couldn’t have asked for anything better for my use case for interviews on location, with the right lens setup and settings low light situations are non existent, unless you’re trying to make cinematic productions and even then, if you have even a 200w light source it’s enough for the sensor and autofocus. Just go for a lower eg f/1.7 and you’ll be fine. As for the modular options these are manifold and it’s a versatile rig for weddings, indie shoots, online media, the versatility is great with the open gate and oversampling.

I have purchased each GH series release since the GH5, and this was the first time I was disappointed. A few weeks after opening my brand new camera, the screen image flipped upside down permanently. It would not switch back after updating, or reinstalling the firmware. Panasonic refused to fix or replace the screen, even though the camera was well within the bounds of warranty. Finally, I should point out that the color science of the GH7 sensor is a slight step backward from the GH6.

I doubted that I should buy a new camera, but I'm so happy that I did.

I switched from a different system to the GH7 and I am incredibly pleased. The GH7 offers an insane amount of features covering both the professional photo and professional video realms. Being so feature packed and well built, I am very excited to explore all of the creative possibilities that it opens up for me.

The GH7 is more camera than the average enthusiast may ever need. It excels in both still photography and video, as is well documented. For me, primarily a stills shooter, I love the LUTS and TikTok LCD.

I bought this last year. Loved it until 1.3 firmware update. After firmware update 1.3, RTSP/RTP streaming feature was deleted due to "security enhancements". My workflow crashed, no reason to use this camera any more. You guys need to change the details on product page. This is false information and consumer deception.
