this North Atlantic mackerel has a different flavor and texture to the more expensive Portuguese canned competitors. it is quite tender and rich without any intense initial bite or aftertaste. very soft and moist while maintaining a subtle profile. would have given 5 stars but the olive oil quality left something to be desired. a good buy

The fish is firm, not fishy at all, and really flavorful. I get the ones in olive oil. Now I probably eat this three times a week. My favorite quick lunch is mashing a tin of it with a little mayo and mustard, then eating it on crackers or in a lettuce wrap. It takes two minutes and keeps me full for hours. It’s so much easier than cooking chicken, and way cheaper than fresh fish. I never thought I'd be the person raving about canned fish, but here I am. Seriously, give it a shot! I was pleasantly surprised by the package. The tin itself is a really good single-serving size—perfect for one hearty lunch. It's not one of those giant, overwhelming cans where you have to figure out what to do with leftovers. I also love that the pull-tab lid actually works smoothly. No fighting with a can opener at my desk!
When it is 5:30pm and I feel wiped out, it is a great relief to open my pantry doors, pull out a tin of Mackerel, simply pull the tab and have something delicious to add to the tossed salad I have thrown together. And the right amount of olive oil, full of nutrients from the mackerel comes with it. Add a few easily steamed veggies and I can have a satisfying nutritionally sound dinner with little exertion.
